What

Well… this week progressed in quite the downward spiral. I appreciated being able to use Zoom to attend class! As our world continues to become stranger I continue to ponder the role of rhetoric in the constant flood of information and misinformation we are receiving every day. I find that I can hardly connect my thoughts between tending to a sick child, worrying about the dissolution of sanity in the world, and dealing with toilet paper mad shoppers at the grocery store. I just sold the last six-pack of toilet paper in the store, possibly in the whole town, about three hours ago. I am sick of having the same conversation with every customer when all I would like to do is hide safe at home in bed with my daughter and cat. To add to the already complicated issue of online-only schooling I now have to figure out how to keep my daughter from falling behind while she is home for the next six weeks or more. I think I may keel over from the stress.
The rhetoric of this time is complicated. Everyone wants to share what they believe is important information but instead there is just an increase in confusion. Misinformation is being spread through good intentions and the desire to share awareness. Someday we will look back and I wonder what we will say… will we regret our slowness of action, or will we roll our eyes. I turn thirty on Friday and 2050 is just as far away as 1990. This is nowhere where I expected to be at this time. I feel like I should have more valuable thoughts by now, but honestly I just feel more at sea.
